🦅 White-tailed eagles on Bislicher Island – A nature experience this weekend

Weekend. Camper packed. Nature calls – and we follow, back to a place that once captivated us: the Bislicher Insel near Xanten in the Lower Rhine region.

On our last visit, we were lucky enough to spot a pair of breeding white-tailed eagles. Now, weeks later, we wanted to see for ourselves what had become of the chicks.

Two Young Birds and the Wait for the King

We reach the viewpoint in brilliant weather. Far from the hustle and bustle, accompanied only by the rustling of leaves and the call of wild geese, we focused our gaze on the nest.

And yes – they were there: two young white-tailed eagles, fluffy, alert, hungry. They sat calmly in the nest, turning their heads, observing every movement. They waited. And we waited with them – eager to see if one of the adult birds would appear.

And then he came...

Suddenly, there was a commotion on the water. Geese rose, gulls shrieked – and then a white-tailed eagle glided majestically over the area. With a powerful wingspan, it soared, hovered powerfully, and finally landed directly at the nest.

A magical moment. No rush, no sounds – just this majestic bird, briefly lingering with its young, as if to make sure everything was alright.

Then it took to the skies again, and with it, our wonder also soared.

🍺 Conclusion with a view

Before heading back, we stopped at the AuenCafé. A Radler in the sun, the view over the Rhine floodplains, and the feeling of having been so close to a piece of wilderness – the day couldn't have ended more beautifully.
