With the camper through Sweden: Storforsen & Trappstegforsen in autumn
Sweden in autumn – a journey full of impressive nature, breathtaking waterfalls, and magical moments. In this post, we'll take you to two of the most beautiful natural highlights Sweden has to offer: the majestic Storforsen waterfall and the idyllic Treppstegfossen waterfall . Join us on our camper trip through the Swedish wilderness!

The Storforsen – natural wonder and power of the elements
The Storforsen Waterfall is the centerpiece of the nature reserve of the same name and one of the largest rapids in Europe. Over a length of 5 km, the Piteälven River overcomes a drop of 82 meters, with a drop of 60 meters in the final 2 km alone. The average water flow is an impressive 250 m³ per second. Upon arrival, the roaring sound of the water forging its way with unbridled power is impressive.
The well-developed paths make exploration easy, and numerous accessible walkways invite you to explore – ideal for wheelchair users. We were particularly impressed by the many idyllic barbecue areas around the waterfall. These are the perfect place to take a break and enjoy nature up close.
Photographers will get their money's worth here: Whether the impressive rapids, the view over the river landscape or the colorful autumn scenery - the Storforsen offers unforgettable motifs.

Autumnal campsite at Trappstegforsen
After an eventful day at Storforsen, we continued on to Trappstegforsen , where we spent the night. This waterfall is a quiet and idyllic spot, perfect for campers seeking nature and relaxation. The nearby pitches are comfortable, and there's even a small barbecue station. Unfortunately, it doesn't open until 11:00 a.m., but that doesn't detract from the special atmosphere.
The Treppstegfossen waterfall—or Trappstegsforsen as it's called in Swedish—got its name from the stepped rock formations over which the water cascaded. Its convenient location makes it a popular destination, and its tranquil setting invites campers and hikers alike to linger. It became especially nostalgic for us when we remembered seeing our first Northern Lights at this spot last year—an unforgettable experience! The Treppstegfossen waterfall will definitely remain a highlight of our trip.
