By Mountain Railway to Ebenalp
The first part of our excursion took us up to Ebenalp by mountain railway. Already during the ride, we were treated to fantastic views of the Swiss mountains.
Below us, the valleys grew smaller and smaller, while the impressive peaks of the Alps rose before us. The combination of green alpine meadows, rugged rock faces, and clear mountain air immediately created a true holiday feeling.
We paid 34 Euros per person for the mountain railway back then. So, the total cost for the two of us was 68 Euros. Certainly not a cheap excursion, but even during the ascent, it became clear to us that this day would be worthwhile.

Hike to Aescher Guesthouse
After the mountain ride, the hike to the famous mountain guesthouse began.
The path led through an impressive alpine landscape and constantly offered fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Again and again, we stopped to take photos or simply enjoy the view.
Part of the path was quite steep and certainly required some stamina. Especially on warm summer days, you quickly notice that you are moving in the mountains.
But that's exactly what makes such hikes so appealing. With every step, you move a little further away from everyday life and immerse yourself deeper into nature.
Along the way, we repeatedly encountered other hikers who had the same destination. No wonder, as the Aescher is one of Switzerland's most famous attractions.
At the paragliding launch site on Ebenalp, visitors enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the Appenzellerland and the Swiss Alps. In good weather, numerous paragliders take off here daily towards the valley.

Then, finally, it was time.
After a final bend, the famous Aescher Guesthouse suddenly lay directly before us.
The first impression was overwhelming. Built directly into the steep rock face, the guesthouse seems almost surreal. One automatically wonders how this building could have been built in this location at all.
No photograph can fully capture the special atmosphere of this place. Only when you stand before it yourself do you understand why the Aescher has become so world-renowned.

Especially during the summer months, it's worth planning enough time. There's a lot to discover, and the view constantly invites you to linger a moment longer.
