The Grimsel Pass is one of the most impressive Alpine passes in Switzerland. Narrow switchbacks, crystal-clear reservoirs, and a pass elevation of 2,165 meters make it a true highlight for motorhome travelers, motorcyclists, and nature lovers.
After our adventurous day at the Klausen Pass, this famous Alpine pass was on our itinerary today. We had parked our motorhome at a quiet pitch at the foot of the Grimsel Pass. From there, we set off on a quad tour that we had been looking forward to for a long time.
The sun was shining bright in the morning. We couldn't have wished for better weather for this trip. The clear mountain air, the snow-capped peaks, and the stunning scenery promised an unforgettable day in the Swiss Alps.
As we slowly made our way up the pass road, new spectacular views awaited us around almost every bend. Once at the top, we enjoyed the impressive mountain scenery with a non-alcoholic beer, watched two anglers on the mountain lake, and simply let the tranquility of the Alps wash over us.
But even after returning to the motorhome, our day was far from over. Together with our husky Don, we explored the surroundings of our pitch before ending the evening with a spontaneous quad ride into the valley and a delicious ice cream.

After two adventurous days in the Swiss Alps, the next highlight was already waiting.
With an elevation of 2,165 meters, the Grimsel Pass connects the Bernese Oberland with Valais and is one of Switzerland's most spectacular pass roads. Especially in spring, an impressive contrast emerges here: while spring is already arriving in the valleys, the pass summit often still has meter-high snow walls lining the road.
Our motorhome was parked at a quiet pitch at the foot of the pass – the perfect starting point for our planned quad tour. Already at breakfast, the anticipation was immense. The sun shone from a radiant blue sky, promising ideal weather for a day in the mountains.
After unloading our quad from the trailer, we packed our cameras and set off. We expected winding roads, impressive reservoirs, fantastic viewpoints, and plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty of the Swiss Alps.
But it wasn't just the pass road itself that made this day special. Once at the top, we enjoyed the tranquility of the mountain world, watched two anglers on a crystal-clear mountain lake, and gazed at the snow-capped peaks.
Back at the motorhome, our husky Don was already waiting for his next adventure. During a walk, we discovered a beautiful mountain meadow that was perfect for a small photoshoot. The day concluded with a spontaneous quad ride into the valley – and, of course, a delicious ice cream was a must.

Hardly had we left the campsite when one of the highlights of our entire Switzerland trip began. The road to the Grimsel Pass snaked up the mountain in countless hairpin bends, offering breathtaking views after just a few kilometers.
This route was particularly enjoyable with our quad. Unlike in a motorhome, you experience the mountain world even more intensely here. You feel the fresh wind, smell the clear alpine air, and hear the rushing of the streams and waterfalls making their way through the rocky landscape.
The higher we went, the more impressive the view became. A new panorama opened up around almost every bend. Deep below us lay the valleys, while the rugged peaks of the Swiss Alps rose ever higher before us.
We were particularly impressed by the large reservoirs along the pass road. The water shimmered in strong blue and turquoise tones and reflected the surrounding mountains. Together with the dark rocks and the last snowfields, a landscape emerged that seemed almost surreal.
Of course, we couldn't just drive past. We stopped again and again at small parking bays to take photos and launch the drone. Especially on a sunny spring day, the Grimsel Pass shows itself from its most beautiful side. The clear air provided a fantastic long-distance view, allowing us to see the surrounding peaks in sharp detail.
With every meter of elevation gained, it became clear that winter was far from over up here. While spring had already arrived in the valley, larger snowfields appeared more and more frequently along the road. Shortly before the pass summit, meter-high snow walls finally rose next to the roadway – an impressive sight that one would hardly expect at the end of spring.

Of course, we first looked for a parking space, parked the quad, and let the view sink in. Such moments are among the most beautiful for us on every trip. It's not always about visiting as many sights as possible in one day. Sometimes it's enough to simply stop and enjoy nature.
Since the weather was perfect, we treated ourselves to a non-alcoholic beer as a reward. With a view of the impressive mountain scenery, it tasted twice as good. While we sat there, we watched the passing motorcyclists, cyclists, and motorhome travelers. It was immediately clear that the Grimsel Pass is a very special destination for many.
The meter-high snow walls along the road were particularly fascinating. Although spring had already arrived in the valley below, much up here still reminded us of the past winter. The contrast between the white snow masses, the dark granite rocks, and the deep blue sky made the landscape unique.
Of course, the camera couldn't be missing. We took the opportunity for some panoramic shots. Especially from the air, it becomes truly visible how impressively the pass road winds through the mountain landscape.

It was fascinating to observe their calm as they sat there. While motorcycles, cars, and motorhomes repeatedly crossed the pass all around them, time seemed to stand still at the lake. The mirror-smooth water surface, the fresh mountain air, and the impressive scenery created a very special atmosphere.
We stood there for a while, observing the two fishermen. But on this day, luck apparently wasn't on their side. Despite their patience, the big catch remained elusive. Nevertheless, both seemed completely relaxed and appeared to simply enjoy the day in nature.
Exactly these encounters are what make traveling so appealing to us. Often it's not the major sights, but the small, unexpected moments that stay in our memory particularly long.
We took the opportunity to take some photos and videos. The combination of the deep blue mountain lake, the rugged granite rocks, and the last remnants of snow in the background made for beautiful motifs. The peaceful atmosphere was difficult to capture with the camera, but these moments often tell the most beautiful stories later.

After a relaxing break at the top of the pass, we finally began our journey back. Even though we could have enjoyed the Grimsel Pass for hours, our motorhome was waiting for us below.
The descent was just as impressive as the ascent. From a completely different perspective, we could once again take in the magnificent mountain landscape. The sun was now higher in the sky and bathed the rocks, lakes, and snowfields in a beautiful light.
Of course, we stopped again and again on the way back. Some viewpoints seemed even more impressive going downhill than on the way there. From above, you could clearly see the course of the pass road. The many switchbacks wound like a ribbon through the rugged mountain landscape, making it clear how many meters of altitude we had covered earlier.
During the drive, we suddenly discovered a pitch that immediately caught our eye. It was located in the middle of nature, right near the Gelmerbahn, and offered a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. We could hardly have imagined a more beautiful spot.
For a brief moment, we even considered changing our plans spontaneously. But unfortunately, we had already paid for our pitch and didn't want to let the money go to waste. Sometimes that's part of traveling. Not every beautiful spot can also be the overnight stay.
Nevertheless, we resolved to keep this pitch in mind for a future trip. That's why it's worthwhile to be attentive on the road. Often you discover places that you want to visit specifically on a later tour.
The further we drove down into the valley, the warmer it became again. The snow slowly disappeared from the landscape, making way for green meadows, forests, and small mountain streams. It was impressive how quickly nature changed within a few kilometers.
Back at the motorhome, we left our helmets in the vehicle and looked back up towards the Grimsel Pass. It was hard to believe that we had been driving between meter-high snow walls there just a few minutes earlier.

Around the Grimsel Pass, there are several beautiful pitches and campsites. If you have enough time, you should compare different places. Especially along the pass road, you will constantly discover fantastic overnight accommodations with views of the Swiss mountains. It is often worth planning an extra day to explore the region at your leisure.
But for us, the day was far from over. No sooner had we returned than our next little companion was waiting for his adventure – our husky Don.

Photoshoot with Don, our Husky
Back at our motorhome, someone was already eagerly waiting for us – our husky Don. While we had explored the Grimsel Pass with the quad, he had been looking forward to his own little discovery tour.
After a short break, we set off together. Right near our pitch, we discovered a beautiful green mountain meadow, framed by the peaks of the Swiss Alps. It was immediately clear to us: this was the perfect place for some photos of Don.
As soon as he was unleashed, he darted across the meadow full of enthusiasm. He sniffed curiously through the tall grass, jumped around playfully, and visibly enjoyed his freedom. These are exactly the natural moments we love most. Instead of posed shots, the most beautiful pictures often emerge when Don can simply be himself.
Of course, we immediately got out our cameras. One moment Don was looking curiously into the camera, the next he was already off on another exploration. This very variety makes photographing a husky so exciting – it's guaranteed never to be boring.
The combination of the lush green meadow, the snow-capped mountains in the background, and the bright sunshine created a dreamlike backdrop. We couldn't have wished for better conditions. Some of these pictures remain among our favorite shots of Don to this day.
But it's not just the photos that stay with us. It's precisely these small moments that make our travels so special. Enjoying nature together, discovering new places, and creating unforgettable memories – that's what we travel for with our motorhome.

Especially in the mountains, however, you should always have enough water with you and keep an eye on the temperatures. Actually, we had planned to end the evening comfortably at our motorhome. After the impressive quad tour over the Grimsel Pass, the many photo stops, and our walk with Don, we were completely satisfied.

As we sat together after dinner, an idea came to us: Why not start the quad again and drive into the valley? No sooner said than done. Just a few minutes later, we were back on our quad, enjoying the ride through the calm evening atmosphere of the Swiss Alps.
The roads were now much emptier than in the afternoon, and the low sun bathed the mountains in a warm, golden light. After the exciting day, this relaxed ride felt almost like the perfect end to our little adventure.
Once in the valley, we found an ice cream parlor and treated ourselves to a delicious ice cream. After a sunny day in the mountains, it tasted twice as good. While we enjoyed our ice cream, we reviewed the day's experiences.
