Our campervan tour through Spain takes us, in its third part, to a place that has long been on our list: the Ebro Delta in Catalonia. There, we hope to see flamingos, vast nature, water landscapes, and special shots with Dayo.

Arrival at the Ebro Delta
After a really peaceful night at a free parking spot with a fantastic view over the reservoir, we start the day relaxed. The morning atmosphere is wonderful, but we don't stay long.
Our destination is the Ebro Delta. Here, we hope to finally see flamingos in the wild.
The Ebro Delta is located in northeastern Spain in the Catalonia region and is one of the largest wetlands in the country. Covering around 320 square kilometers, it features a unique landscape of rice fields, lagoons, waterways, and small nature trails.
The area is particularly known for its birdlife. Over 300 bird species live or rest here, including flamingos. That's why we bring our camera and telephoto lens and set off full of hope.

Flooded Paths and a Walk with Dayo
Already at the parking lot, we notice that the Ebro Delta is showing its wet side today.
The paths are partially flooded, and we make slow progress. While we try to keep our feet dry, Dayo is completely in his element.
For him, this walk is a small paradise.
Every puddle is investigated, traversed, or used directly for play. The wetter the path gets, the more fun he seems to have. For us, it's rather difficult, but for Dayo, it's one of the most beautiful moments of the trip.
That's exactly what makes traveling with a dog so special. You plan for flamingos and nature shots, and in the end, the wet dog becomes the secret star of the day.
No Flamingos in the Delta
After a while, we reach the observation hide and eagerly look out over the water.
The camera is ready.
The telephoto lens is ready.
But unfortunately, the search remains unsuccessful.
No flamingos.
Dayo also looks very closely again, but he finds nothing either.
Of course, this is completely normal in nature. Animals cannot be planned. Nevertheless, we are a little disappointed at first, because we came here precisely for the flamingos.
In the end, it was still a beautiful walk through a special landscape. And if you ask Dayo, the outing was a complete success anyway.

Camino Natural del Ebro and the Castle
Unfortunately, we discover the Camino Natural del Ebro a bit too late.
This path follows the course of the Ebro, Spain's longest river, and leads through some of the region's most beautiful landscapes. For hikers and cyclists, this route is certainly an exciting tip.
A castle high up on a mountain particularly catches our eye.
It looks almost as if it's from another era. Located high above the landscape, with a wide view over the valley, it's exactly the kind of place you'd love to stay longer.
We particularly love such discoveries on our campervan trips. It's not always the famous sights; sometimes, it's the unplanned places along the way that stick with you.
Journey to Cambrils
After the Ebro Delta, our campervan tour through Spain continues towards Cambrils.
Cambrils is located directly on the Mediterranean Sea and is interesting for us on this day for one main reason: Dayo is going to the beach for the very first time.
We find a parking space in a small side street, grab our camera and leash, and a few minutes later, we're already standing with our feet in the sand.
For us, it's a beautiful start to the new year.
For Dayo, it will be a very special moment.
Dayo Discovers the Waves
At first, Dayo is a bit skeptical.
The sea roars, the waves come towards him, and everything is new. You can tell he doesn't quite know what to make of it yet.
But then, a small stick in the water is enough.
Suddenly, the uncertainty is gone.
Dayo runs off, jumps through the waves, splashes in the water, and is completely in his element. Within a short time, he's wet, covered in sand, and simply happy.
For us, this is one of the most beautiful moments of this trip.
Of course, we later notice in the campervan that a wet dog on the beach brings its own scent. An outdoor shower is definitely higher on our wish list afterwards.
Flamingos in Palavas-les-Flots
Actually, we had almost given up on the flamingos.
Since we're on our way home, we decide against the detour to the Verdon Gorge. The weather is supposed to get worse, and snow is even forecast along the way.
So we make a stop in Palavas-les-Flots.
And as soon as we arrive, we see them.
Flamingos.
Right at the roundabout, we spot the first animals. Soon after, we see more and more. Much more than we had expected.
After the disappointment in the Ebro Delta, this moment is, of course, all the more beautiful. Sometimes you find exactly what you were looking for in a completely different place.
For us, Palavas-les-Flots is therefore a perfect stopover on the way back.
Last Night in Uzès
We spend our last night in Uzès.
Here, we end the evening peacefully. It's a beautiful conclusion, but also a moment that makes us a little sad.
Because it's slowly becoming clear: the vacation is coming to an end.
The next morning, there are still 1,091 kilometers ahead of us. According to the weather forecast, there might even be snow along the way. Nevertheless, we remain relaxed, because we still have some time and don't have to rush through.
The trip was varied, surprising, and full of special moments.
Conclusion of our Campervan Tour Spain
Spain Part 3 clearly shows once again why we love traveling by campervan so much.
Not everything goes according to plan.
In the Ebro Delta, we don't find flamingos, but Dayo has a perfect day between water, mud, and puddles. In Cambrils, he discovers the waves of the Mediterranean for the first time. And in the end, we do see the flamingos after all – in Palavas-les-Flots in Southern France.
For us, it was a wonderful conclusion to our Spanish trip.
With many new impressions, quiet pitches, special animal moments, and a dog who enjoyed this trip in his own unique way.
Which trip comes next, we really don't know this time.
But one thing is certain: the next adventure is already waiting.
