Iceland Camper Road Trip – Stokksnes, Glacier & Diamond Beach
After our arrival in Iceland, the first real day of our great adventure finally begins.
Already upon waking, we notice that Iceland is different. The landscape seems harsher, the mountains more massive, and everywhere you feel that special atmosphere that we previously only knew from pictures.
Today, some of the most famous places in the southeast are on our agenda. Places we've seen in photos for years and can now finally experience for ourselves.

Stokksnes and the Mighty Vestrahorn
Our first stop takes us to Stokksnes.
The drive itself is impressive. In front of us, the Vestrahorn slowly emerges – one of Iceland's most famous mountains.
In pictures, this place already looks spectacular. But when you stand there yourself, it's something else entirely.
The wind sweeps over the black sand beach, the waves roll in from the Atlantic, and behind them rises the almost 900-meter-high Vestrahorn.
We find the dark colors of the mountain particularly impressive. The volcanic rock gives it an almost mystical appearance.
We spend much more time here than planned and simply enjoy the view.
Jökulsárlón – The Famous Glacier Lagoon
Afterward, we drive on to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.
As soon as we catch our first glimpse of the water, we understand why this place is one of Iceland's most famous attractions.
Icebergs drift everywhere through the lagoon. Some glow blue, others appear almost black.
There is an incredible calm.
Again and again, you hear the cracking of the ice as small pieces break off.
We just stand there and observe this fascinating natural spectacle.

Heinabergsjökull – A Quiet Glacier Away from the Crowds
While Jökulsárlón is visited by many travelers, Heinabergsjökull feels significantly quieter.
That's precisely what makes this place so special for us.
In front of us lies a lagoon full of icebergs. No big hustle and bustle, no crowds – just wind, water, and ice.
Heinabergsjökull is part of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe.
The silence here is impressive and makes this place one of our personal highlights of the trip.
Diamond Beach – Ice Diamonds on Black Sand
Actually, we wanted to visit Diamond Beach the evening before.
But sometimes, not everything goes according to plan when traveling.
A problem with the parka app and the late hour meant we had to postpone our visit.
The decision paid off.
Already during the night, we got to experience the Northern Lights – a fantastic start to the next day.
We return in the morning.
Countless ice blocks lie before us on black volcanic sand.
The sun makes the ice pieces glitter, while the waves of the Atlantic continuously roll over them.
Now we finally understand why this place is called Diamond Beach.
Fjaðrárgljúfur – The Canyon from Another World
To conclude our day, we visit Fjaðrárgljúfur.
The more than two-kilometer-long canyon is considered by many to be one of Iceland's most beautiful natural wonders.
The view from above is impressive.
Moss-covered rock faces, sweeping formations, and the small river deep below create a scenery that seems almost surreal.
Ever since Justin Bieber filmed his music video "I'll Show You" here, people all over the world have known this place.
Nevertheless, the canyon still manages to preserve its special atmosphere to this day.

Our Conclusion
Southeast Iceland captivated us from the very first moment.
Stokksnes, the glacier lagoons, Diamond Beach, and Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon impressively show why Iceland is one of Europe's most spectacular travel destinations.
And we are only at the beginning of our journey.
